The group's history begins in 1994 when Mos Def and DCQ were members of Urban Thermo Dynamics, a group that had a deal with the Polygram affiliate Payday London. The deal fell apart after some white-label promos and one official single. Mos Def struck out on his own while DCQ rounded up some family members and started Medina Green, "Medina" being the Asiatic name for Brooklyn and "Green" signifying growth.

Dominican rapper JR Writer grew up listening to Big L,Big Pun, and his alltime favorite,Tupac. As a teen he worked the Harlem hiphop circuit hard, appearing on local access cable television shows and joining every open mic competition he could. It was at one of these battles that he met Cam'ron and Juelz Santana, members of a crew known as the Diplomats or Dipset. Cam'ron had just signed a deal with RocaFella, Santana was unsigned heat, and the first Dipset mixtape was still in the works, so no matter how impressed Cam'ron was with Writer's fast and furious style, he was unable to take on new talent at that moment. New Jersey native Luck signed a five-album record deal with Def Jam, worth between half a million and a million dollars, at the age of 17 on the strength of several freestyles that she did for New York radio station WQHT-FM. After several arguments with the label, Luck was released from her Def Jam contract three years later. Although she recorded an album, Turn My Mic On in 2001, it was not shelved due to politics. Luck was the subject of a feature in The New Yorker, and a series of articles in The Source, which ran monthly installments on her career. Lady Luck was featured in the 2000 documentary film of Jay-Z's 1999 tour, Backstage. Luck recently dropped her mixtape Are We There Yet? and has become a fixture on hip-hop video site WorldStarHipHop.com.

The Jacka (Born 1977) is an American rapper from Pittsburg, California. He began his career with the Pittsburg group Mob Figaz,[1] whose first album, C-Bo's Mob Figaz, was released in 1999. He currently runs his own label.[2] His new project entitled "Broad Daylight" consists of 14 songs [3] Jacka won Ozone's patiently waiting award in 2008.[4] The Jacka also converted to Islam and changed his name to Shaheed Akbar. Jacka currently runs his own label entitled The Artist Records. He began his career with the Pittsburg group Mob Figaz, their first album, C-Bo's Mob Figaz, was released in 1999 and was a minor hit on the Billboard Hip Hop chart entering in at #63 but it sold fairly well making 160,000 units sold.[6] His first solo release Jacka of the Mob Figaz in 2001 sold over 30,000 units. Jacka sold these units himself, in the Bay Area and shipping to one-stops across the country. Though great support came from the Bay Area, sixty percent of Jacka's sales came from outside of California.

Before becoming a staple on every mixtape, The LOX relied on the sounds of Grease in order to acquire the street buzz that landed them their deal on Bad Boy Records in 1996. Fellow Bad Boy Mase sought out Grease’s distinctive sound and gave him the opportunity to provide production on Mase’s triple platinum Harlem World. This led to Grease’s work as the primary producer on DMX’s classic debut It's Dark and Hell Is Hot, where Grease helped the Ruff Ryders mold both their image and their sound into what would become one of the most well-known hip hop crews. During this time, Grease taught and paved the way for Swizz Beatz, another sample-free producer, to make his mark on the game.
The world has seen a resurgence of Grease’s sound in 2007, with the Harlem producer securing DJ Drama’s lead-off “Takin’ Pictures” (featuring Young Jeezy, Rick Ross, Jim Jones, T.I., and Young Buck) and Freeway’s single “Big Spender” (featuring Jay-Z). Grease also produced several tracks on Hell Rell’s debut album “For The Hell Of It,” which has been described by many as one of the most well-rounded releases by a Dipset artist. Grease has also been hard at work on his own album and recently released the single “Sour Diesel,” which features N.O.R.E. and Styles P. With several more projects lined up that will last well into 2008, Dame Grease looks to continue to lace Hip Hop with the same quality production that he has for the past decade and a half.
In the year 2009, Dame Grease produced the track "Lambo Dreams" for Curren$y which will be included on Curren$y's This Aint No Mixtape: Championship Edition.
In a recent 2010 radio interview ,Dame discussed his forthcoming projects with The Lox, DMX and his new Max B project.
